Easy, flat, sunny. Mostly surrounded by unspoilt nature and with some great views too. If this is what you are looking for, then this trail in Lauenen is just right for you.
The picturesque mountain village of Lauenen, with its old wooden houses and venerable 16th century church, is only a stone's throw from the Gstaad ski resort, a very busy place in the winter. If you are looking for cross-country skiing in the midst of unspoilt scenery this is the perfect place for you, set as it is in one of the five side valleys in this popular famous holiday region.
The cross-country ski trail starts at the bridge in Rohr. The route takes you along the Louwibach and through the snow-covered sunny moorland and flood plain. You will see the so-called Tristen haystacks along this consistently flat route. These are large, cone-shaped haystacks which are layered around a long wooden rod and thus maintained in the traditional way. In their winter raiment they offer a strange sight indeed.
This cross-country ski trail is especially suitable for both beginners and seasoned skiers alike. There is a longer and a shorter route to choose from, yet always with views of the magnificent mountain scenery with the superb Spitzhorn. With a bit of luck, you may even encounter a passing husky team or a horse-drawn carriage.
