Reading with Christian Haller, winner of the Swiss Book Prize 2023
17.03.2024 , Sunday
Last November, Christian Haller was awarded the Swiss Book Prize 2023 for his novella "Sich lichtende Nebel" at the BuchBasel festival. We are delighted that he is coming to the Hotel Alpenland in Lauenen to present his book. You are cordially invited to join us on Sunday, 17 March 2024, 11.00 am
In the novella "Sich lichtende Nebel", 80-year-old author Christian Haller explores the question of how we know that a person who was just visible in a circle of light and then disappears will reappear in another circle of light - and not simply disappear completely into the dark. The author thus takes up the question that none other than the young physicist Werner Heisenberg asked himself in a Copenhagen park in the spring of 1925.The scientist was confronted with the fact that his question distanced him from the exact sciences - but it was precisely this question that led him to the discovery of quantum mechanics. This field of tension between the exact sciences and the humanities fascinates the author Christian Haller, who is also a biologist. He manages to put into words what may sound complicated with playful ease. Christian Haller's storytelling is vivid, making it comprehensible and stimulating even for those who know nothing about physics or the natural sciences. The laudation for the Swiss Book Prize also states: "The novella Sich lichtende Nebel by Christian Haller is clarity, beauty and simplicity in the best sense of the word. the Canton of Aargau Art Prize 2015. Three arguments in favour of the Swiss Book Prize 2023." (Michael Luisier) Christian Haller was born in Brugg in 1943. After studying biology, he was a member of the management team at the Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute. He has received numerous awards for his extensive literary work, including the Schiller Prize in 2007 and the Art Prize of the Canton of Aargau in 2015.
