Insider tip from a Gstaad resident

There are as many cows as people living in the Gstaad vacation region. The region is not only known as a luxury destination, but also for its typically traditional alpine farming and down-to-earth lifestyle. If anyone knows Gstaad down to the last detail, it is Claudia von Siebenthal Fust. Born in Saanen, she has been a tour guide for 9 years and shows guests the beauty of her home. Today she reveals her personal insider tips for an unforgettable break in the Gstaad vacation region.

For fans of tradition: Chalet village Saanen

My home village of Saanen is well worth a visit: Chalet after chalet from the 15th to 18th centuries line the village center. With its deep-rooted tradition, artistic craftsmanship and a past steeped in history, Saanen exudes a very special charm. Leonie Müller sells a specialty in her GyBi shop: the famous Saanen mustard, for which every family in the region has its own secret recipe.

For gourmets: Fondueland

I pack everything I need for a fondue in the mountains in my hiking rucksack? Or simpler: I rent the nostalgic fondue backpack! You can do this at any dairy in the region. The fondue backpack then takes you to one of the seven enjoyment spots, such as the new XXL caquelon above the idyllic mountain village of Abländschen. Where the electric post bus runs from Saanen until the end of October.

For active people: Horneggli panoramic trail

The tour is not called the Panorama Route for nothing: The easy high-altitude hike offers a fascinating view of the magnificent Gstaad mountains. The hiking paradise opens up in Zweisimmen. The gondola lift takes you up to the Rinderberg, from where the trail leads over the Hornberg and on to the Horneggli mountain station. The eight stations of the new Alpine Magic Trail, which offers children a playful insight into Alpine life, can also be found along the route.

For those seeking peace and quiet: Arnensee

Far away from the hustle and bustle in the middle of a magnificent mountain world lies the Arnensee: swimming in small bays, fishing, barbecuing at well-equipped fireplaces and various hikes offer pure summer enjoyment. If you want to float on the lake, you can hire pedalos, rowing boats or paddleboards. The mountain restaurant «Huus am Arnensee» with its cozy terrace serves the finest regional products. There are also barbecue areas by the lake.
