The hike starts from Mittelberg, where the e-postbus line #185 runs between Saanen and Jaun from the beginning of May to the end of October. The beautiful panoramic trail leads around the Schneitgrat corner to Hintere Schneit and offers magnificent views of the Romandie (French-speaking Switzerland) and the Saanenland.

From Bire, the trail climbs up to the Luegle mountain saddle and continues along the Hundsrügg to Schiltenegg. On the Schiltenegg, one of the many cosy alpine huts awaits you, where you can buy traditional alps cheese directly on the spot. The alpine hut is situated at an altitude of 1800 metres and offers a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains.

From Schiltenegg, you hike through a breathtaking landscape dotted with lush moorland meadows, fragrant flowers and majestic mountains via Sparenmoos to Site-Alp. Here you can reflect on your hike and enjoy a refreshment or refreshments.

The charming hiking taxi takes hikers from the idyllic Sparenmoos back down to Zweisimmen at 15:00! It runs on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Bookings must be made by 17:00 the day before (Tourismus Info Point Zweisimmen: +41 33 722 11 33).

  • Approach

    The holiday region Gstaad is located in the south-west of Switzerland right on the border to the French-speaking part of the country. The region is easily accessed by rail or car from the regions around Lake Thun and Lake Geneva and the Gruyere region. Direct connections to the European high-speed rail network and all international airports in Switzerland guarantee a time-saving and pleasant journey. The main means of transport in the region of Gstaad are the "MOB" (Montreux-Oberland Bernois) train and numerous post bus lines.

    • From the Luegle via the wide west ridge 208 metres up to the summit of the Hundsrügg (2047 m above sea level). The Hundsrügg offers an impressive 360° panorama with views of 427 peaks, including the Eiger, Matterhorn, Dents du Midi and Mont Blanc. After the summit, the trail leads over the ridge down to Schiltenegg, from where you follow the normal route again.
    • All along the way there are alpine huts that sell the fine alpine cheese directly. Look out for the signs pointing to these outlets.
    • The hike offers numerous photo opportunities and the chance to enjoy nature to the full.
