From Feutersoey, the cross-country trail first leads over the flat terrain of the Zelg, then climbs up to the Saali, followed by a short descent to the edge of the village of Gsteig at 1,200 metres above sea level.
Various races are held around Feutersoey, that is located on the debris cone of the Tschärzis stream and you can sense the competitive atmosphere here.
After passing Saali, the cross-country ski trail continues to gently rise as it approaches the edge of the village of Gsteig (1,200 metres above sea level). At the finishing point are bus connections back to Gstaad.
Before returning, however, it is well worthwhile to take a detour into the heritage-protected village of Gsteig in the most south-western corner of the canton of Bern. It is situated in the deeply-cut valley of the Saane River at the Col du Pillon and is surrounded by the Diablerets massif and Sanetsch area. The oldest farmhouse in Gsteig for which a date is known dates back to 1557. Many others were built in the 17th century and are recognisable by their richly decorated and painted facades. The Gothic church and the neighbouring Hotel Bären are therefore among the most frequently photographed typically Swiss locations.
